Professor Michal Bassani-Sternberg awarded the Robert Wenner Prize 2026

Professor Michal Bassani-Sternberg, of the University of Lausanne and CHUV, a member of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, and the AGORA Cancer Research Center, has been awarded the Robert Wenner Prize 2026, one of Switzerland’s most prestigious distinctions in cancer research.

The prize, awarded by the Swiss Cancer League, recognizes outstanding young scientists for exceptional contributions to oncology. This year, for the first time, the award was granted to two researchers – Professor Michal Bassani-Sternberg and Professor Camilla Jandus (University of Geneva).

Bassani-Sternberg was honored for her pioneering work in personalized cancer immunotherapy. Her research focuses on developing tailor-made cancer vaccines using advanced genomic and immunological approaches combined with artificial intelligence. These innovative therapies can be designed within weeks and have already shown promising results in early clinical trials.

Her work represents a major step forward in making immunotherapy more effective, more personalized, and accessible to a broader range of patients – including those with rare or advanced cancers.

Each laureate receives CHF 50,000 to support ongoing research projects.
