Prof. Johanna Joyce (Full Professor of Oncology at UNIL, Full Member of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, and AGORA member) has been appointed Co-Director of the UNIL Department of Fundamental Oncology. Prof. Tatiana Petrova (Full Professor of Oncology at UNIL and member of the AGORA Scientific Committee) will serve as Director. Both bring extensive leadership experience to their new roles.
The new leadership team aims to advance cutting-edge research programs, strengthen strategic collaborations within the Faculty of Biology and Medicine and beyond, and support researchers at all career stages. The department aims to advance fundamental discoveries in cancer biology, accelerate their translation into clinical benefit, and foster an environment where the next generation of scientists can thrive.
To the best of UNIL’s knowledge, this marks the first time that both leadership positions of a UNIL department are held by women—an important milestone reflecting the strength and diversity of scientific leadership at the institution.
