The ISREC Foundation has announced the winners of the TANDEM 2025 call for projects, dedicated this year to digital pathology in cancer research. This program supports interdisciplinary teams co-led by a clinician and a basic scientist, fostering collaborations with strong translational potential across Switzerland.

Among the six selected projects, Prof. Johanna Joyce (UNIL, Ludwig Institute, AGORA) and Dr. Giulia Cossu (CHUV) will investigate whether tissue fibrosis drives brain cancer recurrence. Using advanced spatial multi-omics and digital pathology technologies, their study aims to unravel mechanisms of fibrosis in glioblastoma and identify new therapeutic targets to prevent relapse.

The other awarded projects include:

Expanding cancer diagnostics through an analysis of lymph nodes – Prof. Inti Zlobec (UNIBE), Dr. Bastian Dislich (UNIBE), Dr. Amjad Khan (UNIBE) and Prof. Martin D. Berger (INSEL)

What bone marrow imaging can tell us about leukemia – Prof. Olaia Naveiras (CHUV/UNIL), Prof. Laurence de Leval (CHUV/UNIL), Prof. Bart Deplancke (EPFL) and Dr. Daniel Sage (EPFL)

Diagnostics of a rare lymphoma through integrative AI – Prof. Davide Rossi (IOR-USI), Prof. Luca Mazzucchelli (EOC) and Prof. Alessandro Giusti (SUPSI)

Spatial Biology for Risk Stratification of Colorectal Cancer – Prof. Andreas Moor (ETHZ) and Prof. Viktor Kölzer (USB)

Distinguishing primary tumors from metastases in lung with AI – Prof. Sabina Berezowska (CHUV/UNIL), Dr. Andrew Janowczyk (HUG) and Dr. Claudio De Vito (HUG)
