Prof. Johanna Joyce begins term as President of the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR)

Prof. Johanna Joyce, Full Professor at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne (UNIL), Full Member of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (Lausanne Branch), and member of the AGORA Cancer Research community, has begun her term as President of the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) for the 2026–2028 period.

This prestigious appointment follows her election as President-Elect at the EACR 2024 Congress in Rotterdam. She succeeds Professor Yardena Samuels (Weizmann Institute of Science) and will lead one of the largest and most influential scientific societies dedicated to advancing cancer research in Europe and beyond.

Prof. Joyce is internationally recognised for her pioneering work on the tumour microenvironment, with a particular focus on brain tumours and brain metastases. Her research has significantly advanced understanding of how immune, stromal, and vascular cells interact with cancer cells to regulate tumour progression and response to therapy.

Her laboratory has developed widely used tumour atlases and computational resources that map complex tumour ecosystems, including openly accessible human tumour datasets that are used by researchers worldwide.

We warmly congratulate Prof. Joyce on this outstanding recognition, which reflects her longstanding scientific excellence, collaborative leadership, and major contributions to cancer research.
