Professor George Coukos elected Fellow of the Academy of Immuno-Oncology

We congratulate Professor George Coukos, Director of the Department of Oncology UNIL-CHUV, Director of the Lausanne Branch of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Full Professor at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine at the University of Lausanne, and AGORA member, on his election as a Fellow of the Academy of Immuno-Oncology (FAIO).

This prestigious distinction from the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) recognises his pioneering work that has transformed cancer immunotherapy into a revolutionary treatment.

Prof. Coukos’s landmark discovery linking T lymphocyte tumour infiltration to improved prognosis in ovarian cancer has shaped modern immunotherapy approaches. Since 2012, he has led the UNIL-CHUV Department of Oncology and Ludwig Lausanne as a global reference centre for tumour microenvironment and personalised cell therapy research.

He will be officially honoured at the 40th SITC Annual Meeting in November 2025.
